Heidelberg Catechism and the Psalms

The Reformed tradition has a long history of preaching based on the Heidelberg Catechism and the singing of Psalms in worship. You will find the Heidelberg Catechism and Psalms organized in two different ways.

Organized by Liturgical Topic

Some churches might want to use the Heidelberg Cathecism and Psalms as support texts for sermons or throughout the worship liturgy (call to worship, words of praise, God's will for our lives, etc.). This index is organized according to liturgical topic (praise, faith formation, etc.) to allow the worship leader to find texts to fit with other scritpure texts used in the context of a worship service.

Organized by Lord's Day

Some churches might preach a sermon series that is organized by Lord's Days. In the Reformed tradition, the Heidelberg Catechism was used in the evening church "teaching" services, where the Pastor would walk through the 52 weeks of the year, preaching the Catechism accordingly. In this index you will find suggested Psalms for use with the Heidelberg Catechism lessons.
